MAR and thecreativedestruction developed the Research and Concept of Oculi Mundi, the online platform of the Sunderland Collection, an inclusive and critical space for exploration, discovery and cross-cultural evolution of knowledge.
The work explores the maps and the boundaries of architecture in virtual environments and through the digital fruition. What is a Virtual Museum, What is a Map Museum, What is the Medium, Is it a Museum? are the questions that inform the process and the project. Instead of proposing a virtual architecture that imitates actual spaces, the work focuses on the essential values of the Collection and maps as a tool of knowledge and imagination.
The collection is a database+The curation is the structure of the space are the fundamental concepts: by responding to the users and to the database, a series of strategies are intrinsically fostered: (social / curatorial / circulation) producing a system of intertwined experiences, contents, spaces. The museum becomes a device of multiplicity and simultaneity.
